About us and Byeburn Farm

We are a small farm, located in north-west New Jersey, where we raise Jacob sheep.

Byeburn farm has been around, under various names, since the 1840s and we are lucky enough to have lived here since 2006.  We chose to call it Byeburn because it's by a stream, aka burn in England/Scotland!

We loved the place instantly, with its brick farmhouse, stone barn and mature walnut grove.  While the pasture acreage was wonderful for our dogs, it was a challenge to keep on top of the mowing.  We needed some environmentally friendly grass trimmers and the barn needed some inhabitants.  Having grown up in rural England, we were naturally drawn to the ancient, rare Jacob breed.

There turned out to be a breeder half an hour from us - Peggy Van Beek at Ridgecroft farm
- who not only set us up with a great JSBA registered starter flock, but has mentored us through most of our first-time experiences as shepherds.  W
e began with 4 bred ewes and one ewe lamb.

Our flock currently stands at 25 Jacobs, who share their pastures with 4 llamas and 2 Shetland sheep.  We also share our home with 6 dogs and a cat called Bob.  We’ve selected a few of our favourite photos for the gallery, which we hope you enjoy.  Please e-mail us if you have any questions or want additional information about our products.
